United Kingdom: Falun Gong Practitioner Speaks at "Stop Violence against Women" Seminar Hosted by Amnesty International

By practitioners in the United Kingdom

On November 30, 2005, Amnesty International hosted a seminar entitled, "Stop Violence against Women" at the London School of Oriental and African Studies. Falun Gong practitioner Mo Zhengfang was invited to give a speech about her own experience of being persecuted by the Chinese Communist regime. Some artworks from the "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance" International Art Exhibition were also displayed at the seminar. After learning about the persecution, many seminar participants signed the petition calling for the United Nations Human Rights Council to assist in rescuing the persecuted Falun Gong practitioners in China.

Signing to call for an end to the persecution

Falun Gong practitioner Mo Zhengfang pointed out that many female Falun Gong practitioners in China have been illegally and brutally persecuted by the Chinese Communist regime. Torture methods used against them include sexual harassment, sexual abuse and forced abortion. She was beaten and kicked by the police when she was eight months pregnant. In December 1999 Ms. Mo, a British resident, attended the Falun Gong experience sharing conference in Hong Kong. She then went to Beijing with three other Falun Gong practitioners to appeal for justice for Falun Gong, trying to tell people the facts of the persecution and the beauty of Falun Gong. Unexpectedly, when they were preparing their truth-clarification banners in the hotel, the police broke into their room and illegally arrested all of them. When they started the sitting meditation while in detention, the police kicked Ms. Mo's legs despite the fact that she was eight months pregnant. She was then detained in a detention centre in Beijing for one week.

Mo Zhengfang told the participants that the Chinese Communist regime's persecution of female Falun Gong practitioners is extremely wicked. An example is the persecution of pregnant women. Although Chinese law prohibits pregnant women from being sent to forced labour camps, many women are forcibly given abortions and were then sent to labour camps. There were also pregnant women who had miscarriages in the labour camps because of the heavy physical workload. Even women seven or eight months pregnant could not escape that abuse.

In the seminar, the organization, Friends of Falun Gong provided some art works from the "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance" International Art Exhibition for display. These included paintings depicting torture of practitioners, including practitioners being hung up high with both arms stretched, and torture against women. Also exhibited were pictures showing Falun Gong practitioners' efforts in revealing the facts of the persecution and appealing for justice. Practitioners explained the background and the story behind each painting. Some students who passed by the seminar room also stopped to look at the artworks. Many participants signed the petition calling for the immediate end to the persecution and asked for information about Falun Gong and the art exhibition.

A seminar participant said that, as described in the Amnesty International's posters, violence against women is the most shameful crime in today's world. The facts she heard today about the Chinese Communist regime's persecution against women and Falun Gong practitioners were intolerable. She hoped that this persecution could be stopped immediately.

This seminar was organized by the student union at the School of Oriental and African Studies, as part of Amnesty International's worldwide efforts to stop violence against women. This worldwide activity will end on International Human Rights Day on December 10.

United Kingdom: Practitioners Protest the CCP's Atrocious Abuse of Human Rights on International Human Rights Day

By a Dafa practitioner in the UK

On December 10, 2005, International Human Rights Day, United Kingdom Falun Gong practitioners participated in a rally outside the Chinese Embassy in London to protest the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) unceasing persecution of Chinese people's human rights.

A number of VIPs attended the rally to express their support and give speeches, including Dr. Charles Tannock MEP, the vice president of the human rights subcommittee of the European Parliament and the spokesman for the foreign affairs of the UK Conservative Party; John Grogan MP; Lord Thurlow, a former senior UK diplomat; English playwright Mrs. Tinch Minter. A Falun Gong practitioner who experienced the persecution in China also gave a speech. Vice president of the Greater London Parliament Mr. Brian Coleman was not available to attend the rally in person, but sent his speech and asked a practitioner to deliver the speech for him.

The speakers unanimously condemned the terrible human rights situation in China. They recognized that the fundamental factor undermining the development of human rights in China is the evil CCP dictatorship. Lord Thurlow stated in his speech, "The United Nations itself has recently issued a report of its sub-commission on human rights that emphasizes the gross violations that amount to terrorism by the Chinese Communist Government against its own people. The Special Rapporteur on torture problems calls it 'terrorism from above.'

Lord Thurlow also pointed out, "Recently there has been an addition to the extensive list of officially encouraged torture methods in the form of deliberately organized rape." This appalling case of the rape of two women Falun Gong practitioners happened on November 25, 2005 while the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture was in China for investigations Police from Dongchengfang Town Police Station, Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province, took into custody two Falun Gong practitioners, Ms. Liu Jizhi (51 years old) and Ms. Han Yuzhi (42 years old). At Dongchengfang Town Police Station, a policeman named He Xuejian raped Ms. Liu Jizhi and Ms. Han Yuzhi during so-called "official interrogation" in front of another policeman. This event is definitely not an isolated case. The CCP supports and incites officials to commit such crimes, even rewarding them. Under the officially mandated persecution of Falun Gong, cases of rape and sexual abuse repeatedly occur.

Dr. Charles Tannock MEP, the vice president of the human rights subcommittee of the European Parliament, was interviewed by NTDTV after his speech. Dr. Tannock indicated in the interview that, "China at present has stronger and stronger economic and political links with the European Union. I think we should further concern ourselves about the human rights condition in China. Chinese people deserve to have the same rights as people anywhere else in the world have, the fundamental human rights, the right of freedom of speech, the right of freedom of assembly, the right of freedom of religion. Hopefully sooner rather than later, they have the right of choosing a government themselves rather than to have to live under the one party of communist dictatorship."

Regarding the withdrawals from the CCP of more than 6 million Chinese people, Dr. Tannock said, "The Chinese Communist Party is just a vehicle for maintaining power for a few people. I was told the promise the Chinese Communist Party had made that by 2007 and 2008 there will be full democracy in Hong Kong with an elected governor, but now Beijing is trying to take that right away from the Hong Kong people. I am hopeful that sooner or later the Chinese communist party regime will give way to democracy, and China will have a government that respects the fundamental human rights of all people."

Mr. John Grogan, the UK Labour Party MP for Selby said, "Today is International Human Rights Day. China has a great historical culture, but many people in the British Parliament are worried about the human rights record of China. We have just seen the report from the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture, Manfred Nowak, stating that torture is still widespread in China. I think that it is the duty for everyone in Britain, whether the MPs or businessmen, to raise this issue of human rights in China. I think it is a very important phenomenon that over 6 million Chinese people are withdrawing from the CCP. This indicates that many Chinese people hope to seek other political organizations outside the Chinese Communist Party to represent their views. People in western countries are already familiar with many parties' coexistence in a democratic society. I would like to see that day come soon in China."

Mourning practitioners persecuted to death in Mainland China

After the rally, people marched from the Chinese Embassy to Chinatown, to expose the CCP's persecution of human rights and to publicize the global trend of people quitting the CCP. Practitioners held banners reading, "Falun Dafa is good," "The world needs Truthfulness Compassion and Forbearance," "Stop the unceasing 6-year long persecution of Falun Gong," and "Bring Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Zhou Yongkang, and Liu Jing to justice." Other banners exposed the CCP's crimes of genocide against Falun Gong practitioners.

Christmas shoppers crowded London's streets. As the march passed by, many people stopped to watch and view our banners, then accepted or asked for leaflets. Going through Chinatown, most of the Chinese people were willing to take our flyers, and some staff members of Chinese shops came out to watch. After viewing several banners, an elderly Chinese man smiled and said, "Very good, very good."

Thailand: CCP Instigates Thai Police to Encroach on Falun Gong Practitioners' Human Rights

By Falun Gong practitioners in Thailand

December 10, 2005, was International Human Rights Day. On this day, opposite the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, police interfered with a group of Falun Gong practitioners peacefully protesting there. The Thai police were incited to do so by Chinese Embassy officials. The practitioners' human rights were seriously abused.

Practitioners protest Chinese police's act of violence

In order to protest the rape of women Falun Gong practitioners by depraved policeman He Xuejian from Hebei Province, and call for an end to the persecution of Falun Gong, for several consecutive days, some Falun Gong practitioners sat quietly on the roadside opposite the Chinese Embassy, clarified the truth and distributed truth clarification materials to passersby. Many people showed their support for the practitioners' efforts.

Thailand's World Journal published a photo report on this activity on December 9, 2005. But since December 9, many police officers came over to attempt to take the practitioners away with an excuse of checking their identification documents. In particular, nearly at noon on December 10, some police officers and vehicles came in and out of the Chinese Embassy. Under the Chinese Embassy's instruction, several dozen police and plainclothes police came across the street, searched practitioners' bags, dragged them and snatched away their banners, creating great interference. When the practitioners told the police about the truth of Falun Gong and exposed the Chinese Embassy's evil deeds, some police officers expressed that they did not want to come, but the Chinese Embassy asked them to do so.

Dafa Practitioners File Lawsuit against Assailants in Argentina

On December 14, while conducting a peaceful protest in front of Argentinean Congress against visiting Chinese official Luo Gan, Dafa practitioners were assaulted by thugs deployed by the Chinese Embassy. The assailants also grabbed practitioners' banners and truth-clarification photo displays. When the incident happened, Argentinean police stood by and didn't take any action to stop the violence. On December 16, the assaulted practitioners retained attorney Alejandro Cowes to sue the assailants and the police officers who refused to take action to protect the practitioners.

CCP thugs assault practitioners in Argentina

Since 1999, Falun Gong practitioners have been brutally persecuted in Mainland China. Luo Gan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese Communist Politburo, is one of the chief perpetrators of the persecution. On December 13, 2005, while Luo Gan was visiting Argentina, Falun Gong practitioners in Argentina, on behalf of all Falun Gong practitioners who have been suffering persecution in China, filed a criminal lawsuit against Luo in federal court, accusing him of committing the crimes of genocide and torture during the persecution campaign against Falun Gong. The very next day, outside the Argentine Congress, practitioners were assaulted by thugs deployed by the Chinese Embassy.

On December 14, during Luo Gan's visit to Argentina, the Chinese Embassy sent thugs to assault practitioners who were protesting the persecution. They wore white or red clothing with a green tag (Photo by Carlos Carbone)

When the assault occurred, Luo Gan was about to go to the Congress to meet with Argentina's vice president. Practitioners displayed banners to protest the persecution and in particular, Luo's crimes. They also distributed information about the lawsuit against Luo and evidence of Luo's crimes to members of congress. All of a sudden, Chinese men appeared and violently took away practitioners' banners, truth-clarifying fliers and personal property. They also rampantly assaulted practitioners, right in front of the media. Some Argentineans tried to stop the violence; however, they were assaulted as well and some were injured.

Surprisingly, on-duty police officers didn't take any action to stop the violence. Reportedly they were ordered by higher authorities not to stop the assailants.

While the Chinese Embassy to Argentina and the assailants were the direct perpetrators of the assault, the chief culprit behind-the-scenes was Luo Gan.

Luo Gan, as Secretary of the Political and Legislative Affairs Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Central Committee and head of the 610 Office, directly planned, deployed and directed the persecution against Falun Gong. In order to gain personal political capital, he arbitrarily murdered Falun Gong practitioners, implicated, coerced and threatened millions of families, and created countless family tragedies and wrongful arrests. He manipulated the political and judiciary system, and made use of the country's propaganda machinery to spread lies to the world to distort and demonize Falun Gong cultivators, to mislead the public. He also wantonly arrested and detained Falun Gong practitioners on a large scale across the country to inhumanly and ruthlessly persecute them.

After Jiang stepped down, Luo Gan continued to push the persecution of Falun Gong so as to force the new leaders to take responsibility. This year, he directed a new round of arrests of Falun Gong practitioners, which has led to frequent torture and death cases. Many extremely despicable cases have occurred. In addition, he brings persecution and injustice to wherever he goes.

Amnesty International Supports Falun Gong

Initially, there was some confusion among Argentinean media about this incident. Some reported that the assault was a fight between two groups of Chinese who had different opinions. Regarding this confusion, on the afternoon of December 16, Amnesty International (AI) held a press conference to clarify the facts of the incident. The representative of AI said that AI cannot tolerate the fact that a criminal guilty of genocide came to Argentina and directed thugs to assault Dafa practitioners. Citing an eye-witness, a spokesperson said: "This is Argentina, not communist China."

In a statement issued at the press conference, AI Argentina Chairperson Mr. Pablo Marsal stated "Amnesty International has always supported Falun Dafa. It is also not the first time that this group was assaulted in our country. Amnesty International's annual reports, which are well known around the world, relate the human rights violations in China against different spiritual and social groups. The most striking fact in our country is that, for the second time, we see that a certain group connected to the officials of the Chinese government, assaults with impunity, in Argentine territory, in front of the Congress of the nation, a peaceful group which is known all over the world as a spiritual group. For this reason, it is totally incomprehensible. We really want the Argentine authorities to investigate this incident. This incident has attracted a lot of attention from human rights organizations.

After the last incident, Falun Dafa protested to the police. They filed a lawsuit which did not lead anywhere. They are filing now another lawsuit against these aggressors. The officials of another country are violating our Argentine sovereignty in our country. This is something which may not continue. Of course it is true about what is happening in China and, apparently, the persecution has begun to extend to a country like ours, Argentina, a country which is proud to defend human rights."

The Desperate Struggle of the Perpetrators Will Not Prevent its Disintegration

The assault of practitioners in Argentina and the police violence in Thailand instigated by the CCP both highlighted the unscrupulous nature of the CCP and its desperate struggle before its disintegration. However, the tide of history has put the CCP between the beetle and the block. The conspiracy of the CCP persecutors that include Luo Gan, Zeng Qinghong and others can't harm Falun Gong any more. On the contrary, anything they do only lets more people recognize the evil nature of the CCP and makes them abandon the party.

Practitioners said that the CCP's persecution of innocent Chinese, especially the brutal persecution of Falun Gong, has been recognized by more and more people around the world. The unstoppable tide of withdrawals from the CCP indicates that the CCP will collapse. Practitioners hope that the Argentine government will safeguard human rights and justice for the sake of its own people and not to be confused by the CCP's lies. Practitioners call on the government to hold the assailants accountable and investigate the behind-the-scenes culprits.

Reportedly, practitioners have sued the assailants for physical assault and verbal death threats. At the same time, they also sued federal police for not fulfilling their responsibilities to protect citizens.

Austria: On International Human Rights Day, Practitioners Protest the CCP's Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in China

On December 10, 2005, International Human Rights Day, practitioners from Salzburg and Bavaria held an anti-persecution rally in the city of Salzburg to protest the Chinese Communist regime's persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. The activity won support from the general public, as many passers-by signed the petition to oppose the persecution. During the entire activity, a long line of people could often be seen in front of the table patiently waiting to sign their names.

Salzburg, a city of music, renowned as the birthplace and home of Mozart, attracts tourists from all over the world with its elegant scenery. Though it was in the cold of winter, there were still many tourists visiting Salzburg. People from neighbouring cities also came here on the weekend to shop for Christmas gifts. An old market in downtown Salzburg is a place where people go to do shopping and sightseeing. There is a steady stream of shoppers and tourists, and the atmosphere is bustling and joyful. The Falun Gong practitioners' anti-persecution rally was held here on International Human Rights Day.

A woman with her daughter and her grandson from Munich, Germany passed by our rally and stopped. After learning about the persecution, the whole family signed the petition to show their support for ending the persecution. They also requested the book, the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. They said to the practitioners, "You've done quite well. The persecution of human rights in China must be stopped immediately. It is very important to let everyone, including people around the world, learn about the truth." The woman, who is a doctor, told the practitioners that she had a great interest in China. She said, "I once attended a medical seminar in China, and travelled around there for three weeks, I saw a lot of things. When I asked the tour guide some in-depth questions, she always avoided those topics. When I persisted in asking her, she refused to answer me with the excuse that it was a private question. I wanted to learn about China very much, but I want to know the truth. I don't want to only listen to the fixed set of lines from the tour guides."

The daughter, who is also a doctor, talked about the Chinese Communist Party's tactics of coercion, and said, "The former East Germany had a similar situation; people dared not talk about their political opinions even with their best friend, out of fear of the Communist Party. Everyone lived in terror. History tells us that when people who are deprived of their basic human rights dare to openly stand up to an unreasonable regime and demand those rights, the time for that regime to collapse is imminent."

A resident of Salzburg who is a designer for the performing arts, passed by the Falun Gong practitioners' rally while shopping, and was immediately attracted. After learning the facts, she earnestly told practitioners, "I sincerely hope that China stops its atrocities of trampling upon human rights. I hope that the Chinese people will wake up, cherish human rights, think independently and negate the Chinese Communist's tyranny."

On International Human Rights Day, Falun Gong practitioners also held anti-persecution activities in two other cities in Austria, Vienna and Linz.

UN Special Rapporteur Condemns Widespread Torture in China

Falun Gong Human Rights Working Group Appeals to human rights organizations under the UN Human Rights Commission regarding the recent shocking rape case in Hebei Province.

On December 2, the United Nations Human Rights Commission special investigator on torture concluded his 2-week investigation in China on torture claims and held a press briefing in Beijing. Many major media outlets around the world reported on the envoy's findings.

Austrian law professor Manfred Nowak, the U.N. Special Rapporteur on Torture

For more than ten years, the U.N. has been requesting China to allow investigators to look into claims of torture. "China had repeatedly agreed to allow the visits and then postponed them." AP reported. However, the mounting pressure from the international community and vast number of torture reports from China eventually make this visit a reality.

At the press conference, the rapporteur condemned that torture is very widespread in China and that China should follow the international human rights standard and the U.N. Convention against Torture. China has the world's largest prison system and often uses torture to extract confessions. Mr. Nowak also protested the interference from the Chinese Communist regime in his investigation. The regime not only sent agents to trail, monitor and harass their normal investigation, but also intimidated victims and family members that the U.N. team tried to interview.

Mr. Nowak specifically mentioned the systematic persecution of Falun Gong practitioners by the regime. Arbitrarily detained Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to the tiger bench, water dungeon, electric shocks, beatings, sleep deprivation, etc.

Human rights groups have repeatedly called on China to take steps to fundamentally reform, and to reduce and prevent torture, rescind the system of re-education through labour and stop the torture of innocent people in mental hospitals.

On the same day, the Falun Gong Human Rights Working Group (FGHRWG) submitted an appeal letter to human rights organizations under the UN Human Rights Commission regarding a shocking rape case that took place on November 25, 2005 in Hebei Province. This is the most detailed rape case received by the FGHRWG, and also the tip of the iceberg of the ruthless and inhumane persecution of countless Falun Gong practitioners imposed upon by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in the past six years. The CCP police's brutality and degenerated acts are the manifestation of the malevolent CCP's nature. It has raped not only the two Falun Gong practitioners, but all Chinese people. When the people of the world stand up to condemn the CCP's atrocities, that will be the moment when the CCP completely collapses.

The FGHRWG sent an appeal letter to the following organizations and a detailed report of the case to Mr. Nowak who is conducting the torture investigation in China.

  • Special Rapporteur on the Question of Torture and Detention
  • Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women, its Causes and Consequences
  • Special Rapporteur on the Right of Everyone to the Enjoyment of the Highest Attainable Standard of Physical and Mental Health
  • Working Group on Arbitrary Detention
  • Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief

Meanwhile the FGHRWG also appealed to international women's rights protection groups and government institutes.

Case Brief:

On the evening of November 24, 2005, police from Dongchengfang Town Police Station, Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province, under the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) policy of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners, took into custody two female Falun Gong practitioners in Xitong Village, Dongchengfang Town, Ms. Liu Jizhi (51 years old) and Ms. Han Yuzhi (42 years old), from their respective homes. At Dongchengfang Town Police Station, a policeman named He Xuejian raped Ms. Liu Jizhi and Ms. Han Yuzhi during the so-called "official investigation." The aforementioned rape severely injured the victims and their family members.

European Practitioners Call for an End to the Persecution during Wen Jiabao's State Visit to France

By Denmark practitioners

From December 4 to 7, 2005, Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao visited France. Falun Gong practitioners from France, Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, and Italy gathered in Paris and conducted a series of petition activities, including a march.

On the afternoon of December 4, practitioners held a grand march in District 13, where many Chinese people live. In the march, practitioners held banners worded "Falun Dafa is great", and "Bring Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing and Zhou Yongkang to Justice". At the same time, the Falun Dafa Association Announcement was read in both Chinese and French. Practitioners requested Wen Jiabao to stop the persecution of Falun Gong and bring those culprits to justice.

Local Chinese passers-by stopped to listen, view, and ask for truth-clarification literature. Local French residents asked for more information about the persecution. Some French drivers waved their hands to express their support while waiting for practitioners' procession to pass by.

Near the end of the march, a few young Chinese people ran up to the procession and asked where they could learn Falun Gong.

On the afternoon of December 5, in front of the Chinese Embassy in Paris, practitioners held a peaceful appeal to call for an end of the persecution and to bring Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing and Zhou Yongkang to justice. When practitioners unfurled banners reading "Welcome, Wen Jiabao" and others, staff in the embassy looked at them through the windows with curiosity and talked to each other. Some staff members even walked out of the embassy, said hello with a smile to practitioners and asked for truth-clarification literature.

A Chinese person said that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has committed many crimes and deceived people. He said that in China many know about the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong and other Chinese people. For the deaths of 2791 practitioners due to police brutality in China, he said the CCP is very cruel. He saw photos about practitioners being tortured and felt sympathetic.

UK: Crowds Applaud Falun Gong Performance in London New Year's Day Parade

By a practitioner in the UK

The wet weather receded in time for the 20th anniversary of the London New Year's Day Parade. With more than 10,000 participants this parade is considered "the greatest annual street parade in Europe." The event was attended by an estimated 450,000 Londoners and was also broadcast around the world for Live Satellite Coverage, as well as being covered by the BBC, CNN, Fox news, SKY and CBS.

UK Falun Gong practitioners were back by invitation this year. Their performance was praised as beautiful and peaceful and received applause from the spectators as they passed. The group showed the beauty of Falun Dafa through traditional Chinese music, costume, dance and theatre as well as demonstrating the five sets of graceful Falun Dafa exercises.

Leading the group were medallions of "Truthfulness", "Compassion" and "Tolerance", followed by a lively dragon chasing a golden ball. Two golden lions came next - chasing their wagging tails, chasing each other and enchanting the audience with their joviality. Following the lions came the beating tempo of the waist drummers and cymbals, inspiring onlookers to clap in rhythm.

After the drummers came a finely decorated float containing heavenly beings among the clouds. Dressed in stunning classical Chinese costumes, the beautiful women waved and smiled to the audience who were waving and smiling back. In the centre of the float a dignified person dressed as a Buddha was meditating in a lotus flower surrounded by bright srivatsas and taijis. Along with these heavenly beings the Dafa exercises were also being demonstrated.

Following the float came the fan dancers in pastel pink, green, peach, blue and gold costumes. Dancing with delicate elegance to the music of "Falun Dafa Hao", they inspired many photographs and video recordings to be taken. Behind the dancers came the colorful Falun Dafa banners with bright Falun emblems.

Thousands of hand-made lotus flowers and leaflets were distributed to the crowd. The leaflets explained what Falun Gong is and about the brutal persecution which is still happening in China. When the parade passed near London's Chinatown, many Chinese people received informational Video-CDs about the persecution. Even many westerners asked to have more than one leaflet or a VCD, stating that they had Chinese friends or neighbours with whom they wanted to share the information.
