Speech for 25th April 2007, the 8th anniversary of Zhongnanhai peaceful appeal PDF Print E-mail

Today marks the 8th anniversary of the day when 10,000 Falun Gong practitioners spontaneously gathered at Zhongnanhai in Beijing to appeal peacefully to the Chinese government to release practitioners who had been arrested in Tianjin.

Since then the Chinese government has been responsible for the worst series of organised persecution ever perpetrated in the history of mankind. Over 3,000 practitioners have been tortured to death in prisons and labour camps across China, while thousands more have been subjected to a horrific variety of abuse and torture with little hope of freedom or justice.

It is remarkable to think that just seven years before that day Falun Gong had been introduced to a Chinese public that was clearly ready for a major change to replace the drudgery of everyday life imposed by a government and a party intent upon hanging onto power and subjugating its people.

The popularity of Falun Gong, which resulted in about 100 million people practising it, suddenly posed a huge problem for the government, as they now had a rival for the attention of the masses.

What we have witnessed since however goes against all right-minded thinking and humane behaviour. But should we really be surprised by the attitude of the CCP? After all they had already built themselves a reputation for brutality which has now cost the lives of over 80 million Chinese citizens since 1949.

Not satisfied with the cruel physical and mental torture of millions of people over the last eight years, we have now heard of course of the more sinister practice of organ-harvesting from live practitioners, whose bodies are then disposed of to destroy the evidence.

The CCP's cruelty knows no bounds. We shudder to imagine what new form of persecution may be festering in the minds of those calling the shots in Beijing.

We must all contribute towards bringing these atrocities more into the public domain, especially with the huge propaganda platform presented by the Olympic Games next year. Now is the time to bring pressure to bear on the Chinese authorities to end the persecution and to release all those illegally detained against their will.

We urge all governments of the world to do all they can to put pressure on China to end the persecution, and not to allow their own economic and political interests abroad to rule over freedom and justice for Falun Gong practitioners.

To the Chinese government, we urge you to end the persecution and to release all those being held immediately.

Speech at Press Conference at the 6th anniversary of "Peaceful Appeal" in Beijing PDF Print E-mail

Six years ago, on the 25th April 1999, 10,000 Falun Gong practitioners appealed to the Chinese government against the curbing of their basic human rights by gathering in a peaceful protest in Beijing. As a result the Chinese government, under the leadership of then President Jiang Zemin, began its brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. We know that so far at least 1,880 practitioners have died as a result of torture of one form or another at the hands of the authorities since then, while many thousands more still languish in prisons and labour camps throughout the country, unsure of their eventual fate.

Speech at the Chinese Embassy in London PDF Print E-mail

We are here today to make an impassioned appeal to the leader of the PRC, Hu Jintao, to end the severe persecution of the Falun Gong practitioners in China which has been taking place for more than 5 years now.

During that time more than 1600 practitioners have been tortured to death while in police custody, and the brutal regime of former president Jiang Zemin, has been responsible for the imprisonment of many thousands more practitioners, for doing no more than exercising their constitutional right to freedom of speech and belief. So far the persecution has shown little sign of improving since the new government leader took over nearly two years ago. The continual persecution casts a shameful shadow over mankind which we must do our utmost to expurgate.

Speech at Edinburgh Press Conference PDF Print E-mail

We recently passed the fifth anniversary of the Chinese government's persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China on 20th July 1999. The persecution was begun at the instigation of the then Chinese President Jiang Zemin, who feared loss of power due to the huge numbers of people who had started practising Falun Gong in China over a relatively short period. In fact government figures put the numbers at around 100 million.

Since then Jiang Zemin and his legions of government colleagues have perpetrated the most shocking and wide-ranging persecution of one group of people ever witnessed. The persecution has continued unabated under the new regime of Hu Jintao.
